Softball swept at Indianapolis 10-1 and 8-1

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Indianapolis, Ind - The Missouri S&T Lady Miners were swept by Indianapolis 10-1 and 8-1 on Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis, Ind.

In the opener on Sunday the Lady Miners (5-12, 0-4 GLVC) struck first getting back-to-back doubles from Emily Tucker (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) and Becky Davis (Blue Springs, Mo./Archbishop O'Hara HS) to start the game to plate the game's first run. After a groundout to short Kristen Drage (Morganfield, Ky./Union County ) got the third hit of the inning but S&T was unable to add any more runs as a strike out and ground out to third ended the inning.

The Lady Miners had a chance in the second inning to widen the advantage loading the bases with two outs but a groundout to second ended the threat. The Greyhounds (11-9, 3-1 GLVC) responded in the home half of the inning scoring five times highlighted by a two run double off the bat of Jamie Keltz and a two run homer from Maggie Swanson.

S&T had another scoring opportunity in the third but were unable to piece a rally together as Drage was caught stealing after a lead-off single then with Coley Naughton (Alton, Ill./Alton) on first a pop up and groundout ended the inning.

Indianapolis broke the game wide open in the fourth scoring five more times highlighted by another homer by Swanson, a three run shot and her second of the day, then got a two run homer from Cathryn Sampson for the final tallies.

The Lady Miners went in order in the fifth ending the game because of the run rule.

Drage had two hits to lead the S&T offensive attack as it had seven hits on the day. Jen O'Hara took the loss allowing eight runs on six hits while walking three and striking out one.

In the second game of the twinbill UINDY scored twice in the first inning starting things off with a lead-off triple and single to start the inning. After an error by the left fielder moved the runner to third the Greyhounds got their second run on a bunt single by Sampson scoring Swanson. S&T avoided further damage getting a strikeout and groundout to short to end the inning.

The Lady Miners cut into the lead in the second thanks to a couple off errors by the Indianapolis defense putting runners at second and third with one out but were able to get only one run on Kassi Deibert (Highland, Ill./Highland)'s groundout to second bringing home Drage.

The Greyhounds came right back with two in the bottom of the inning courtesy of two run single by Swanson. S&T had a chance to answer back in the third putting two on with one out but couldn't get the ball out of the infield as back-to-back groundouts by to short and third ended the threat.

The Lady Miners had another chance in the fourth loading the bases with two outs but a strike out ended that threat. Indianapolis blew the game open with a pair of two run innings in the fifth and sixth innings to take the 8-1 advantage.

S&T wound up stranding 16 runners in the doubleheader 10 in the second game alone. The offense was only able to muster four hits in the second game and the defense committed four errors in the loss.

O'Hara took the loss allowing six runs, two earned, on nine hits with six strikeouts and a walk falling to 2-9 on the season.

The Lady Miners will try and get back on the winning path this weekend taking on Kentucky Wesleyan and Southern Indiana at home this Saturday and Sunday beginning at 12 p.m. each day.
