Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 (Rensselaer, Ind.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners rallied late in each game of the doubleheader but both times Saint Joseph's had the final answer as the Lady Miners were swept 4-3 and 6-5 on Saturday afternoon in Rensselaer, Ind.

The Lady Miners (5-10, 0-2 GLVC) jumped on top early in game one getting a run in the first inning courtesy of Becky Davis (Blue Springs, Mo./Archbishop O'Hara HS). With one out Davis singled back to the pitcher then stole second and scored on a throwing error by the catcher. The Pumas (9-5, 2-0 GLVC) had their chance in the home half of the inning loading the bases with one out but Jen O'Hara got a strike out and a ground out to second to get out of the jam.

S&T had a chance to extend its lead in the third loading the bases with two outs but a fly out to center ended the frame. SJC took the lead in the third getting a runner to third with two outs but O'Hara was unable to escape the second time as the catcher hit a two run homer to center field on a 1-2 pitch.

After a scoreless fourth inning the Lady Miners mounted a two-run rally of their own in the fifth to regain the lead. Krista Porterfield (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) started the rally with a single to left then after a strike out moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Rachelle Rhodes (Beggs, Okla./) was hit by a pitch then Kristen Drage (Morganfield, Ky./Union County ) came through with a single to right bringing in Porterfield and moved Rhodes over to third. They regained the lead on another throwing error by the catcher allowing to Rhodes to score and Drage to go to second. As was the case in the third inning S&T had a chance to extend the lead but once again couldn't come up with a two out hit leaving Drage stranded at second to end the inning.

The Pumas regained the lead in the sixth after a lead-off walk to the catcher she moved to second on a sacrifice bunt then moved to third on a single to left. Another single to left brought home the tying run then a walk loaded the bases with only one out. SJC retook the lead on a single to first and still had the bases loaded and chance to break the game open but Porterfield recorded a double play catching a fly ball then nailing the runner at the plate to end the inning.

The Lady Miners had one more chance but went in order in the seventh suffering their second straight defeat.

Five different S&T players had one hit in the loss while Drage had the only RBI. O'Hara tossed all six innings allowing four runs on six hits walking four while striking out three to fall to 2-6 on the season.

In the nightcap Saint Joseph's scored a pair of runs in the second inning to take the lead courtesy of back-to-back hit by pitches with the bases loaded and two outs in the frame.

The Lady Miners scored four times in the fourth inning getting back-to-back RBI singles from Kassi Deibert (Highland, Ill./Highland) and Maggie Schroeder (Bonner Springs, Kan./Basehor-Linwood) bringing in Drage and Coley Naughton (Alton, Ill./Alton) to tie the game. After a single to first by Katie Smith (Shawnee, Kan./Shawnee Mission Northwest) loaded the bases with two outs Emily Tucker (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) came through with a two run single off the second baseman to give S&T a 4-2 advantage.

The advantage would be short lived though as the Pumas answered right back with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning with the big blow being yet another two hit this time two run double to center off the bat of Boerema tied the game. She then scored on a single to second allowing SJC to regain the lead.

S&T had a great chance for a big inning in the fifth putting its first two runners on but a pop-out, strike out and line-out end the threat. The Lady Miners would tie the game in the seventh getting a lead-off single from Rhodes then she moved to third on a double by Drage. Naughton tied the game with a single to right then Deibert walked loading the bases with nobody out.

They were unable to capitalize on the advantage though as back-to-back strikeouts and a fly out to left ended the threat. The Pumas scored the game winner in the bottom of the seventh courtesy of a two out single to right bringing home the winning run.

Four different players had two hits in the nightcap as S&T finished the game with 12 hits. O'Hara again took the loss allowing a run on four hits in three innings of work with a punch out to fall to 2-7.

The Lady Miners will try and snap their three game losing streak as they conclude their trip to with Indiana with a doubleheader at Indianapolis on Sunday afternoon beginning at 11 a.m. (CST).
