Decatur, Ala. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners suffered a tough
2-1 loss to West Georgia on Sunday morning on the final day of the Alabama-Huntsville Charger Chillout Tournament in Decatur, Ala.
Jen O'Hara pitched another solid ball game but a day after the Lady Miners (3-4) scored 14 runs on 26 hits in picking up a pair of victories the offense struggled getting just four hits in 25 at bats. Each team had their opportunities in the opening frame getting a runner to second but neither side could come through with a two out hit to bring home the game's first run. The Wolves (7-5) loaded the bases with two outs in the second on a double and a pair of walks but O'Hara was able to get out of the inning unscathed by getting a strikeout to end the frame.
S&T got a runner to second again in the third inning when Lauren Briggs (LaMonte, Mo./Knob Noster) singled to left then stole second with two outs but Maggie Schroeder (Bonner Springs, Kan./Basehor-Linwood) got caught looking to end the threat. West Georgia cracked the scoreboard first in the home half of the third getting a pair of unearned runs thanks to three Lady Miner errors by the middle infield.
S&T's offense struggled all morning trying to figure out Wolves pitcher Kaci Crider who allowed a run on four hits while striking out nine and walking just one in seven innings. The Lady Miners finally got on the scoreboard in the sixth thanks to a two out rally that started with Emily Tucker (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) walking on a 3-2 pitch. She then proceeded to steal second and advanced to third on an error by the catcher then scored on Rachelle Rhodes (Beggs, Okla./)'s double to left. Meghann Morrow (Lawson, Mo./Lawson) came on to pinch run for Rhodes but was left stranded when Kristen Drage (Morganfield, Ky./Union County ) lined out to center ending the inning.
O'Hara got UWG to go 1-2-3 in the bottom of the sixth giving S&T a chance in the seventh but Crider got two groundouts back to her and a groundout to the catcher ending the ballgame.
O'Hara a day after her no-hitter against Georgia College & State allowed just four hits and struck out five while walking three to be the tough luck loser seeing her record on the year fall to 1-3.
