Box Score (Decatur, Ala.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners had its opportunities but were unable to convert on some great scoring chances in a 7-0 loss to Wayne State (Mich.) on Sunday afternoon on the final day of the Alabama-Huntsville Charger Chillout Tournament.

After holding the Warriors (3-3) in the top of the first inning the Lady Miners (3-5) got runners on the corner with two outs but Kristen Drage (Morganfield, Ky./Union County ) couldn't come through with the big hit striking out swinging to end the inning. WSU had a chance of its own in the top of the second getting two runners on but Ashley Wallingford (Kahoka, Mo./Clark County ) was able to get out of the jam getting the catcher to line into a double play to the third basemen.

Both sides went in order in the order but in the fourth Wayne State got on the scoreboard getting back-to-back singles to open the inning. After a popup to Wallingford she gave up another single loading the bases, and then got a groundout to second getting one out allowing the runner from third to score and the runner at second advanced to third then scored on a throwing error by Becky Davis (Blue Springs, Mo./Archbishop O'Hara HS). After a walk and another single loaded the bases again Wallingford got out of the inning on a groundout back to her.

S&T got its first two runners in the bottom of the inning courtesy of a hit by pitch and a fielder's choice which the second baseman muffed the throw putting two on and nobody out with the chance to tie the game. It was unable to capitalize on the chance though as the next two hitters each struck out looking then Davis popped up to second ending the inning.

The Warriors added two more in the sixth with both runs coming on a two run double to right center. Once again the Lady Miners had an opportunity to put some runs on the board in the bottom of the inning getting runners on first and second but again couldn't score as Kassi Deibert (Highland, Ill./Highland) struck out looking to end the threat.

WSU added its final three runs in the seventh on four hits and a Lady Miner for the final margin. S&T tried to mount one last rally loading the bases in the bottom of the inning but Rachelle Rhodes (Beggs, Okla./) struck out looking to end the game.

Wallingford suffered her second defeat of the season allowing all seven runs, five earned, on 16 hits with a pair of strikeouts and walks in 6.1 innings of work. Jen O'Hara came on in the seventh to get the final two outs. Casey Hanes held the Lady Miner offense in check allowing six hits while striking out 11 and walking two to pick up her second win of the day.

Emily Tucker (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) and Krista Porterfield (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) each had two hits to lead S&T's offense.

The Lady Miners return to action next Saturday and Sunday traveling to Owensboro, Ky., taking on Ferris State (Mich.) and Northwood (Mich.) in the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament. They will play single games against both teams each day.
