(Indianapolis, Ind.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners were eliminated from the final playoff spot in the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament in a
3-1 loss on Friday evening to the Indianapolis Greyhounds at Key Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. Even if S&T was to win its regular season finale on Sunday and Rockhurst were to lose at Lewis then the Hawks would get the nod over the Lady Miners by virtue of percentage points.
The game was scoreless through the opening 45 minutes with the Greyhounds (13-4, 10-3 GLVC) outshooting S&T (5-8-1, 5-7 GLVC) by a 4-3 but the Lady Miners had two shots on goal compared to just one for UIndy. The 'Hounds had three corner kicks against none for S&T.
Indianapolis scored the game's first goal in the 63rd minute when Ashley Seehase ran down a long ball at the end line then sent a one-touch cross to Natalie Dietl who finished it for the goal. The Lady Miners had a chance a couple of minutes later but Melia Miller's shot was denied then Morgan Lockowitz had a pair of shots miss the mark.
S&T tied the game in the 78th minute off a free kick from just outside the box that Lockowitz put into the left side of the goal. Leah Williams was credited with an assist on the play. The game wouldn't be tied for long though as the Greyhounds scored almost a minute later on a short through ball that Seehase finished from the top of the penalty box.
The Lady Miners got one final shot off in an attempt to tie it but Miller's header shot in the 82nd minute was saved by Shae Morris. The 'Hounds added the final goal in the 88th minute on a one touch shot from 25 yards out by Morgan Binder.
Each side finished the contest with nine shots but S&T had the slight edge in shots on goal 6-4. UIndy had four corner kicks in the contest compared to just one for the Lady Miners.
Lockowitz and Miller combined for six of S&T's nine shots with four of the six being on goal.
Seehase and Shelby Spinelli had five of Indianapolis's shots while Morris made five saves in goal.
The Lady Miners finish out the season with a road match at Saint Joseph's College on Sunday afternoon in Rensselaer, Ind., beginning at 12 noon.
