10/2/2009 9:29:46 PM

Box Score (Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners rallied late scoring a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation to the game and force overtime, but came up on the short end of a 3-2 overtime loss to the Maryville Saints on Friday evening at the S&T Soccer Field.

The Lady Miners (3-5-1, 3-4 GLVC) dominated the stat sheet in the opening half outshooting the Saints (3-6-1, 3-4 GLVC) by a 5-1 margin and put four of those shots on goal. However, it was Maryville that got on the board first in the 37th minute when Dana Hillis deflected in a cross from Laura Jendusa past Catherine Swift (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) and into an open net.

In the second half S&T had some great looks early but kept getting denied by the Saints Jena Casagrande.  Hillary Griffith (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) nearly tied the game up at 1-1 just pushing a shot wide of an open net in the 65th minute. Maryville added to its lead in the 72nd minute on a goal by Jendusa sneaking one just inside the near post. The Lady Miners responded by getting on the board in the 80th minute when Sabrina Drennan (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word Academy) took a feed from Brooke Ryan (Olathe, Kan./Olathe East) and slipped one past the keeper inside the near post to cut the lead in half.

S&T had a couple of more chances to tie the game but were stonewalled until Ryan chipped in a loose ball over the keeper's head into a wide open net with less than five minutes to play to tie it up at 2-2. It had one final chance in regulation for the game winner but was unable to convert on a corner kick in the last two minutes.

In the overtime period the Lady Miners had the first chance to try and break the tie but Morgan Lockowitz (Trenton, Ill./Wesclin )'s shot off a restart went just wide in the 93rd minute. Maryville scored the game winner in the 98th minute when Amy Klein knocked home a ball in front of the net from Caroline Jaycox.

S&T finished the contest outshooting the Saints by a 17-9 margin and 10-4 in shots on goal. The Saints finished with four corner kicks to just three for the Lady Miners.

Brooke Ryan (Olathe, Kan./Olathe East) finished the game with a goal and an assist on to lead S&T. Griffith and Leah Williams (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) each had three shots, two on goal in the contest.

The Lady Miners return home on Sunday afternoon to take on Missouri-St. Louis beginning at 12 p.m.
