Box Score 2 The Lady Miners' volleyball squad dropped their final two games at the SBU Tournament on Saturday in Bolivar, Mo. S&T lost the first match to Wayne State (Neb.)
3-0, 21-25, 17-25, 18-25 and the second one to Southwest Baptist
3-1 21-25, 15-25, 25-18, 13-25.
In the opener S&T (2-7) hit only .028 percent (27k/24/e/109ta) while the Wildcats hit closer to 20 percent with 41 kills in 113 total attacks. The Miners trailed for most of the first set before rallying to tie the match on a
Samantha Klump (Ash Grove, Mo./Homeschooled) kill at 15 all. The game went back and forth over the next couple of points before WSC broke a 19 all tie finishing the game on a 6-2 run to take the set.
In game two S&T jumped out to a 4-1 lead but Wayne State quickly responded with an 8-0 run taking a 9-4 lead. The Miners would fight back to within a couple of points before the Wildcats pulled away with another long run taking its biggest lead at 20-10. S&T tried to rally getting within seven before WSC took the set.
In the third set S&T came out on fire racing out to a 10-2 lead but were unable to hold onto it as Wayne State came back to tie the game at 16 all before concluding the game on a 9-2 run to win the match.
Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) and
Leandra Pelae (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) had six kills apiece in the loss for the Miners.
In the finale against Southwest Baptist (5-3) the first set was tight early on being tied at 10-10 before the Bearcats began to take control with a 6-2 run and S&T wouldn't get closer than three points the rest of the set as SBU pulled away with the win.
The Miners got out to a 5-1 lead in the second set before the Bearcats used an 11-0 run to erase the lead and take a 2-0 lead with the 25-15 win.
S&T forced a fourth set by breaking a 14 all tie with an 11-4 run to finish the game but were unable to sustain the momentum as SBU took the fourth game 25-13.
Klump finished the match with a team-high 10 kills in the match.
Lisa Bradley (Littleton, Colo./Columbine) had 16 assists while
Bridget Williams (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) finished with 12 digs.
