Box Score The Lady Miners' volleyball squad won the first game before dropping the next three in a
3-1 loss at Southern Indiana on Friday evening.
S&T (2-9, 0-2 GLVC) went back and forth through the early going of game one before going on a 6-2 spurt to take a 16-12 advantage, the Screaming Eagles (6-3, 1-0 GLVC) came right back to tie it though with four straight points. The Lady Miners' hung tough taking its largest lead of the night at 23-17 before weathering a late charge by USI which saw the lead cut to a couple of points, but a kill by
Erin Bekebrede (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) set up game point and then
Lisa Bradley (Littleton, Colo./Columbine) recorded a service ace for the game one victory.
Game two was all Southern Indiana as it scored the first four points of the game on its way to a 25-11 victory. The third game was tight throughout before the Screaming Eagles took a 20-17 lead but once S&T battled back to tie the match at 21-21 and held a 23-22 before USI rallied to retake the lead at 24-23. The Lady Miners' staved off a couple of game points on kills by Bekebrede and
Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) but weren't able to hold off a third one as the Screaming Eagles took a 27-25 victory.
Game four was another tight affair with S&T holding an early lead before USI came back to tie the game at 9 all. The Screaming Eagles would eventually build a four point lead late but the Lady Miners' battled back to within a point but couldn't regain the lead as USI held on for the 25-22 win.
Bekebrede had a match-high 11 kills to lead S&T while
Leandra Pelae (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) and
Samantha Klump (Ash Grove, Mo./Homeschooled) finished with nine and eight kills respectively.
Bridget Williams (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) finished with 25 digs and
Danielle Kracl (Omaha, Neb./Burke) and Tory Smiley each reached double figures in assists with 16 and 14 apiece.
