Lady Miners fall at #25 Northern Kentucky, 3-0

Box Score (Highland Heights, Ky.) - The Missouri S&T Lady Miners tried to build on its two game winning streak but came up short in a 3-0 loss to the 25th-ranked Northern Kentucky Norse, 3-0 on Friday evening in Highland Heights, Ky.

The Norse (17-3, 7-1 GLVC) came out swinging in the opening set getting 17 kills in 29 attacks to hit over 50 percent in the set. The Lady Miners (4-15, 2-7 GLVC) hung tough early though trailing by a point before a 7-1 spurt gave NKU its largest advantage of the frame. S&T was unable to get closer than five points the rest of the set as Northern Kentucky grabbed a 25-17 win.

The Lady Miners were within striking distance trailing by only a point for the early portion of the second set, one that saw five ties and two lead changes, before the Norse started to pull away late building a 22-14 lead before closing it out with a 25-18 win.

S&T led for most of game three building a 12-6 advantage but NKU battled back to tie the stanza at 14-14 all. The two sides swapped points and leads over the next 12 points and were still tied at 20-20 before the Norse closed out the match by scoring five of the final seven points.

Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) led the Lady Miners with nine kills in the contest while Erin Bekebrede (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) had seven. Danielle Kracl (Omaha, Neb./Burke) finished with 11 assists.
