Box Score Rolla, Mo. - The Missouri S&T Lady Miners hit a season-high .208 percent in picking up its first
3-0 win of the season over the Maryville Saints on Tuesday evening at the Bullman Multipurpose Building. With the victory S&T doubled its win total from last season.
The first set was tight early on before the Lady Miners (6-17) went on an 8-1 run to break a 7-7 all tie and gain some distance on the Saints (10-15). Maryville rallied back to within four points at 19-15 but a service error and a pair of kills from
Erin Bekebrede (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) allowed S&T to regain its seven point cushion and take the opening set 25-18.
The second set was close early one before the Lady Miners used a 7-2 spurt to overcome a 9-8 deficit and retake the lead at 15-11. They continued to hold the until the Saints rallied late to take a 24-23 lead and had set point with a chance to square the match but a kill by
Jessica Laughary (Wheaton, Mo./Wheaton) tied things back up. After a Maryville block gave them another set point, S&T went on to score the final three points to take the set 27-25 and a 2-0 advantage.
The Lady Miners got off to a fast start in game three getting an early 8-2 lead before the Saints scored five of the six points to get within 9-7 but it would be the closest they got as Tory Smiley served 11 straight points allowing S&T to pull away for the three set victory 25-13.
Samantha Klump (Ash Grove, Mo./Homeschooled) had 12 kills against only one error in 20 chances to hit a season-high .550 percent. Laughary finisjhed with six kills while
Danielle Kracl (Omaha, Neb./Burke) and Smiley combined for 21 of the team's 30 set assists.
Bridget Williams (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) finished the night with 12 digs.
