Lady Miners fall in four to Lake Superior State

Box Score Indianapolis, Ind. - In a match that saw 28 ties and 12 lead changes the Missouri S&T Lady Miners fell 3-1 to Lake Superior State (25-21, 16-25, 19-25, 22-25) in its second game at the Asics GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament in Indianapolis, Ind., on Friday afternoon.

The Lady Miners (6-19) took the first game on the strength of 16 kills and outhit the Lakers (4-12) by a .229-to-.062 margin. With the set tied at 10-10 S&T went on a 6-1 run to gain a little distance from LSSU. The Lakers would close to within two points on a couple of different occasions before the Lady Miners pulled away late to earn the win.

The second set saw 11 ties and seven lead changes and was tied 12-12 before Lake Superior State began to pull away with an 8-3 run which was aided by four Lady Miner errors. After a kill by Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) closed the deficit to 20-16 the Lakers scored the final five points highlighted by a pair of kills from Ali Jones and two attack errors by S&T to square the match at 1-1.

The third set was another tightly contested affair which saw each side answer point-for-point until Lake Superior began to pull away late with a 5-1 run breaking a 15 all tie and that carried it to the second set win.

S&T trailed for most of the fourth set until a 7-1 run midway through turned a 13-9 deficit into a 16-14 lead. It continued to hold the lead at 20-18 but a 7-2 run by the Lakers closed out the match.

Meyer led the Lady Miners with a team-high 14 kills while Danielle Kracl (Omaha, Neb./Burke) and Lisa Bradley (Littleton, Colo./Columbine) had 15 set assists apiece. Bridget Williams (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) finished with a match-high 26 digs.
