Lady Miners fall in four at Drury, 3-1

Box Score The Missouri S&T Lady Miners took the opening game then dropped the next three in a 3-1 loss at Drury on Friday evening in Springfield, Mo.

The opening set was an exciting one featuring four ties and two lead changes with S&T (2-12, 0-4 GLVC) holding off a late Panther (6-6, 2-2 GLVC) rally to win 26-24 on a kill by Erin Bekebrede (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) setting up game point and an attack error by Drury to seal it. Samantha Klump (Ash Grove, Mo./Homeschooled) and Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) each had four kills in the set for the Lady Miners.

Game two was all Panthers as they led throughout en route to squaring the match 1-1 with a 25-11 victory. DU recorded 18 kills in the set while committing just one attack error in 37 chances (.459 percentage). Kyrie Hopkins had five kills in the game.

The third game saw the Lady Miners race out to an early 3-0 lead before the Panthers rallied back to take the lead eventually pull away for a 25-15 victory. Drury scored six of its final eight points of the set off of S&T miscues.

The Lady Miners started game four strong as well scoring the first five points of the set but the Panthers rallied from the early deficit to take the lead. Drury built its lead to as many as five but S&T battled back within a pair at 21-19 before DU scored three straight setting up match point. The Lady Miners staved off the first match point but were unable to fight off another as Drury won 25-20.

Klump finished the night with 11 kills while Tory Smiley dished out 28 assists and Bridget Williams (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) dug out 16 balls.

Kyrie Hopkins led three Panthers in double figures with 12 kills. Kayla Hellebusch and Jagoda Pstras each had 11.
