Box Score Indianapolis, Ind. - The Missouri S&T Lady Miners were swept by Ashland University, 3-0 (24-26, 20-25, 21-25) on Friday morning in the opening round of the Asics GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament in Indianapolis, Ind.

The opening set was tight with nine ties and three lead changes but the Lady Miners (6-18) couldn't overcome eight attack errors despite 17 kills in dropping the set. S&T had its chances leading 23-20 but the Eagles (9-10) scored four straight points to retake the lead and held a set point. Annie Smith (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word Academy) responded with a kill to tie the game but Ashland scored the final two points to end the set.

S&T got off to a slow start in the second set falling behind 7-3 before closing to within 14-13 and forcing an Eagle timeout but it would be the closest it got as AU went on a 6-1 run to push the lead back to six and then traded points with the Lady Miners until set point when Marina Santos got a kill to end the set.

The third set belonged to Ashland getting out to a big 15-5 lead before S&T began a comeback that saw it get to within 21-20 but the Eagles scored the next three points to set up match point. A kill by Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) kept the Lady Miners alive on the first match point but they were unable to stave off another as Anesia Benton recorded a kill ending the match.

Santos had a match-high 15 kills to lead all players for Ashland. Erin Bekebrede (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) had nine kills to lead S&T while Tory Smiley had 31 set assists and Bridget Williams (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) had 19 digs.
