Lady Miners winning streak snapped by UMSL, 2-0

Box Score (St. Louis, Mo.) - Despite holding a slight edge on the stat sheet the Missouri S&T Lady Miners had its two game winning streak snapped by Missouri-St. Louis, 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Don Dallas Field in St. Louis.

The first half ended in a scoreless draw but the Lady Miners (5-5-1, 2-4-1 GLVC) had the better of the scoring chances. S&T's best chance came 10 minutes into the contest when Brooke Ryan (Olathe, Kan./Olathe East) ran onto a ball in the box and tried to chip it over the keeper but knocked it over the top of the goal instead.

The Lady Miners kept applying the pressure in the opening frame getting five more shots, two of which were on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net. UMSL (4-5-1, 4-1-1 GLVC) had a chance of its own late in the stanza that hit off the crossbar.

S&T finished the half outshooting the Tritons 6-2.

The second half was a different story with UMSL holding the edge getting on the board almost six minutes in on a goal from Maggie Gabris from the left wing that just eluded Stacey Luquette (St. Amant, La./St. Amant ). The Lady Miners had a shot at tying the game in the 58th minute but Marci Byrd (Oklahoma City, Okla./Yukon)'s shot was saved by the keeper. They had another chance almost 15 minutes later but Paige Smothers (Marion, Ill./Marion) shot was high.

The Tritons scored again in the 81st minute when Anne Weaver took a shot from the left side five yards out and tucked it inside the right pocket. S&T had one more crack at getting on the board in the 89th minute but Leah Williams (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) shot was high.

The Lady Miners finished the contest with nine shots compared to just five for UMSL but the Tritons put four on goal to just three for S&T. Shelly Ekholm (Houston, Texas/Cy Springs) and Rachel Moore (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) each had two shots to lead the Lady Miners.
