Box Score Quincy, Ill. - The Missouri S&T Lady Miners were swept at Quincy University
3-0 (22-25, 17-25, 19-25) on Saturday afternoon in Quincy, Ill.
The opening set saw the Lady Miners (6-22, 3-10 GLVC) lead for most of the way until the Hawks (12-16, 4-9 GLVC) rallied from an early seven point deficit to tie the game at 21-21 then scored four of the final five points of the set off of S&T attack errors, including three blocks, to win 25-22. Quincy finished the set with the advantage in kills with 12 to just four for the Lady Miners.
The second set was back and forth with 10 ties and six lead changes before the Hawks broke a 15-15 tie with a 10-2 run to end the set and take a 2-0 advantage. Quincy continued hitting the ball well getting 10 kills in the frame compared to seven for S&T.
The third set was all Hawks as they got 16 kills in the third set while hitting an impressive .375 percent (16k/4e/32ta) as they built a big lead early and never looked back on the way to the 25-19 win. The Lady Miners hit well getting 10 kills against three errors in 26 chances (.269 percent) but couldn't overcome an early eight point deficit to try and force a fourth game.
Samantha Klump (Ash Grove, Mo./Homeschooled) and
Kaci Herron (Jonesboro, Ark./Jonesboro) had five kills apiece to lead the S&T offense while Tory Smiley had nine set assists and
Bridget Williams (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) had 11 digs.
The Lady Miners return home for a match against Drury on Halloween night beginning at 7 p.m., at the Bullman-Multipurpose Building.
