Lady Miners fall in hard fought match to Rockhurst

Box Score Rolla, Mo. - The Missouri S&T Lady Miners played well against a good Rockhurst squad but still lost 3-0 (18-25, 26-28, 22-25) on Saturday afternoon at the Bullman Multipurpose Building in Rolla.

After getting off to a slow start in game one the Lady Miners (6-24, 3-12 GLVC) rallied to within three at 15-12 but couldn't get any closer as the Hawks (20-10, 10-5 GLVC) built an eight point lead late in the set to win the opener. Rockhurst had 13 kills in the frame while S&T had 11.

In the second set the Lady Miners had set point at three different times but were unable to win the set as Rockhurst scored the final three points to take it 28-26 and a 2-0 lead. S&T played well in the set actually outhitting the Hawks by a .132 to .088 percent and had 17 kills against just 13 for RU.

The third set was another tight one as their were five ties and three lead changes. The Hawks used a 6-0 spurt turning a 14-13 deficit into a 19-14 lead but the Lady Miners refused to quit getting within two on two different occasions late but were unable to overtake the Hawks as they held on for a 25-22 win.

Rockhurst had the slight advantage in kills with 42 to 41 for S&T but committed 20 attack errors against 19 for the Lady Miners.

Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) had 11 kills for S&T while Erin Bekebrede (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) had seven. Tory Smiley had 21 set assists and Bridget Williams (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) had 19 digs.

The Lady Miners hit the road for the final time this season traveling to St. Louis to take on Missouri-St. Louis on Tuesday evening beginning at 7 p.m.
