Lady Miners fall in four games at Missouri-St. Louis

Box Score (St. Louis, Mo.) - The Missouri S&T Lady Miners battled hard but were unable to overcome a balanced offensive attack from Missouri-St. Louis losing 3-1 (18-25, 22-25, 26-26 and 14-25) on Tuesday evening in St. Louis.

The Lady Miners (6-25, 3-13 GLVC) hung tough with UMSL (21-7, 13-3 GLVC) in the first three sets forcing 16 ties and eight lead changes but the Triton offense hit nearly 28 percent to win the first two games. S&T rallied back to win game three 26-24 and force a fourth game but a 9-2 run by the Tritons midway through game four broke open a close game turning a six point lead into a 13 point cushion on their way to the victory.

The Tritons had four players reach double figure kill totals led by Sarah Eisnaugle with 14. Weslie Gaff finished with 12 while Kelsie Rankin and Elizabeth Cook had 10 apiece. For the match Missouri-St. Louis finished with 57 kills in 153 chances while S&T had 43 kills in 150 chances.

Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) finished with a double-double with 10 kills and a career-high 26 digs and was joined in double figures in kills by Erin Bekebrede (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) with 10 as well. Katie Herington (Kalona, Iowa/Mid-Prairie) hit a match-high .538 percent with seven kills against no errors in 13 chances. Bridget Williams (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) finished the match with 17 digs and needs just 21 more to reach 1,000 for her career and Lisa Bradley (Littleton, Colo./Columbine) recorded a career-high with 33 set assists in the match.

The Lady Miners return home to play their final home games of the season beginning Friday night against Southern Indiana starting at 7 p.m. at the Bullman Multi-purpose Building.
