Box Score (Rolla, Mo.) - In front of the largest crowd of the season the Missouri S&T Lady Miners were swept
3-0 in its final conference match by the visiting Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles (25-19, 25-22, 25-16) on Friday evening at the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building.
The Lady Miners (6-26, 3-14 GLVC) scored the first point of the opening set but Southern Indiana (16-13, 9-7 GLVC) led for rest of the way building its lead to as many as six points midway through the set. S&T closed the gap to one by scoring five straight points highlighted by a couple of kills from
Erin Bekebrede (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles). USI quickly regained the momentum though with a 5-1 run of its own pushing the lead back to five. The Lady Miners would get no closer than four the rest of the way as the Screaming Eagles took the set.
In the second set S&T trailed for the early portions until going on a 7-1 run turning a 12-8 deficit into a 15-13 lead. The game remained back and forth until the Screaming Eagles broke a 17 all tie eventually pulling away with the 2-0 lead.
The Lady Miners led for most of the third set until Southern Indiana tied the match at 13-13. Each side traded points over the next six points but the Screaming Eagles took control of the set going on a 9-0 run to end the set and take the match.
Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) finished with 10 kills to lead the way for S&T. Bekebrede finished the match with seven kills in 14 chances against no errors. Tory Smiley and
Danielle Kracl (Omaha, Neb./Burke) finished in double figures with 13 and 12 set assists respectively while
Bridget Williams (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) ended the night with 19 digs and now is just two shy of reaching the 1,000 dig mark for her career.
S&T concludes its regular season with a home match on Saturday evening against NAIA powerhouse Columbia College beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building.
