Lady Miners fall in season finale to Columbia College 3-1

Box Score Rolla, Mo. - The Missouri S&T Lady Miners fell in its season finale to Columbia College 3-1 on Saturday evening at the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building. Columbia College came into the contest as the fifth ranked team in the NAIA.

The Lady Miners (6-27) played well in the first game hitting .225 percent and had 15 kills against just six errors taking the opening set 25-22. S&T led pretty much throughout the frame building its lead to as many as six on several different occasions. The Cougars (36-3) pulled to within 21-20 but the Lady Miners proceeded to score three of the next four points to set up set point. After an attack error by Maddie Owak (Tinley Park, Ill./Chicago Christian), Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) ended the game with a kill from Danielle Kracl (Omaha, Neb./Burke).

The second game was back-and-forth before Columbia College went on a 9-0 turning a 13-12 deficit into a 21-13 lead. S&T would get no closer than six points the rest of the way as the Cougars evened the match at a set apiece with the 25-17 win.

The third game was tight as well before Columbia began to slowly pull away at the end building a five point lead and holding set point at 24-19. The Lady Miners refused to go away though staving off three straight set points but couldn't stave off a fourth as Juliana da Silva knocked home a kill to end the set.

The fourth set was all Cougars as it raced out to an early six point and then withstood an S&T rally that got within three points before CC began to pull away again stretching its lead to eight points. The Lady Miners were able to stave off three match points but a tip kill by Flavia Lino ended the match.

Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) finished the match with a team-high 15 kills while Erin Bekebrede (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) chipped in with seven. Kracl and Tory Smiley each finished with 15 set assists while Bridget Williams (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) had 16 digs and reached the 1,000 plateau for her career. She finished her first two seasons with 1,014.
