Biography
2011: Had some of the team’s best times in the middle distance events during the 2011 indoor season…had marks of 51.35 in the 400-meters, 1:58.99 in the 800-meters and 4:28.38 in the mile…was sidelined during the outdoor season due to an injury.
2010: Captured the GLVC championship in the outdoor 800-meters after finishing second in the event indoors...won the outdoor title with a time of 1:52.69, his best mark of the season...also had a time of 4:00.42 in the 1,500-meters, the best by a Miner during the season...top indoor marks were 1:53.43 in the 800-meters and 4:18.04 in the mile, which also topped the team list...was an NCAA provisional qualifier in both 800-meter races and earned a berth to the NCAA Championships as part of S&T's 4x400-meter relay team.
2009: Earned All-GLVC laurels as part of the Miners' distance medley relay team at the league's indoor meet...S&T won the event in a time of 10:23.62...also placed sixth in the indoor mile with a time of 4:24.90 and in the outdoor 1,500-meters 1:58.25...best indoor mark in the mile was 4:24.03 at Iowa State...recorded a time of 1:57.29 in the indoor 800-meters and 1:55.08 in the outdoor 800.
2008: Earned All-GLVC honors during the indoor season as a freshman…placed third in the mile and fifth in the 800-meters at the GLVC Indoor Championships…took fourth in the 1,500-meters during the conference outdoor championships…had the Miners’ best indoor time in both the 1,000-meters (2:36.34) and mile (4:23.40)…posted a seasonal-best time of 1:56.96 in the 800 at Central Missouri…had top outdoor times of 1:56.85 in the 800-meters and 4:01.53 in the 1,500.
HIGH SCHOOL: Finished 19th in the Michigan Division 2 state meet with a time of 16:03 in his senior year...took sixth in the district meet in 17:14...was part of the winning 3,200-meter relay team at last spring's state track meet...and had a time of 16:52 at the 2005 state cross country meet...in track and field, recorded top times of 1:57.35 in the 800-meters and 4:20.09 in the 1,600 at the state meet…was named as his team's most valuable player as he has earned all-state, all-region and all-conference laurels during his prep career, in addition to winning the Gatorade "Rookie of the Year" award...was a four-time academic all-state and academic all-conference selection.
PERSONAL: Son of Michael and Sue Smith...attended Chelsea High School...majoring in civil engineering.
