Biography

2021-22: Competed in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke with second-best squad time of 48.63 also participated in the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard backstroke posting a time good enough to be NCAA Division 2 provisional qualifying time…Named to GLVC Academic All- Conference

2020-21: Earned a pair of top-eight finishes at the GLVC Championships...finished seventh in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 48.71 seconds, while placing eighth in the 200-backstroke in 1:46.89...also competed in the butterfly, where he had a top mark in the 100-yard event of 49.55 seconds...made NCAA Division II B-cuts in both backstroke events...member of GLVC All-Academic team and recipient of the Br. James Gaffney Distinguished Scholars Award.

2019-20: Earned All-America honors during his first season at Missouri S&T as part of the 200-yard medley relay team that won the consolation race at the NCAA Division II Championships...also qualified for the consolation final in the 400-medley relay that was canceled due to COVID-19 and was granted All-America honors by the CSCAA...set a new school record in the 100-yard backstroke at the GLVC Championships with a time of 48.93 seconds, which placed him third in the event at the meet...also posted S&T's best mark in the 200-backstroke of 1:47.88 and was sixth in the GLVC meet in that event...was part of the 200-yard medley relay team that finished second and the 400-yard medley relay team that took fourth at the conference meet.

PERSONAL: Son of John and Julie Cavanaugh…competed at Papillion-LaVista High School, where he won a state championship as part of the 200-yard freestyle and medley relay teams…also finished second in the 50-yard freestyle and third in the 100-yard backstroke…earned USA Swimming scholastic All-America honors as well…majoring in mathematics at Missouri S&T.
