Biography
2008-09: Earned All-America honors for the second season in succession in the 200-yard backstroke…recorded a third place finish in the event with a school record time of 1:47.73 in the finals…competed in the 100-backstroke as well and posted a top time of 50.95 in the event…took fifth in the 200-backstroke at the NSISC meet and also won the consolation final in the 100-backstroke.
2007-08: Earned All-America honors in the 200-yard backstroke in his first season with the Miners…broke the school record in the event as the fourth-fastest qualifier for the finals with a mark of 1:49.54; finished eighth in the event in the finals in 1:49.93…competed in the 100-yard backstroke and posted his seasonal-best time of 5.191 seconds…placed second in the 200-yard backstroke and third in the 100-back at the NSISC meet.
PERSONAL: Son of Steven and Kim Schmidt…served as a team captain over the past two seasons at the high school level and has also competed in the USA Swimming program…was selected to the organization's scholastic All-America team in 2006 and was a member of the school's National Honor Society…majoring in electrical engineering at S&T.
