Biography
2008-09: Earned a conference championship as part of the Miners’ distance medley relay team…named to the All-GLVC first team for his efforts…was also part of S&T’s 4x400-meter relay team that finished as the league’s outdoor runner-up…took sixth in the 800-meters at the league’s outdoor meet and in the indoor mile…top times of the outdoor season were 1:55.08 in the 800-meters and 4:04.18 in the 1,500-meters; had marks of 1:57.29 in the 800-meters and 4;24.03 in the 1,500-meters during the indoor portion of the schedule…competed in five meets during the cross country season, with a top six-kilometer time of 26:47 at Louisville…finished 44th at the GLVC Championships held at Missouri S&T.
2007-08: Had a solid freshman season for the Miners…finished in a scoring spot in every meet and was among the Miners’ top four runners in every meet but one…was S&T’s No. 2 runner at the Brooks Memphis Twilight meet in October...finished fourth in the 1,500-meters at the GLVC Outdoor Championships...was 21st at the GLVC Cross Country Championships...had the team's best time of the season in the outdoor 1,500-meters of 4:01.53...also ran a 1:56.85 in the 800...ran a 4:23.40 in the mile to pace the Miner runners...had a 1:56.96 in the 800-meters and 2:36.34 in the 1,000.
HIGH SCHOOL: Joins the S&T program after a year in which he finished 19th in the Michigan Division 2 state meet with a time of 16:03...took sixth in the district meet in 17:14...was part of the winning 3,200-meter relay team at last spring's state track meet...and had a time of 16:52 at the 2005 state cross country meet...in track and field, recorded top times of 1:57.35 in the 800-meters and 4:20.09 in the 1,600 at the state meet…was named as his team's most valuable player as he has earned all-state, all-region and all-conference laurels during his prep career, in addition to winning the Gatorade "Rookie of the Year" award...was a four-time academic all-state and academic all-conference selection.
PERSONAL: Son of Michael and Sue Smith...attended Chelsea High School...majoring in civil engineering.
