Michael Burton, a former quarterback at Missouri Western State University, enters his seventh season on the Missouri S&T coaching staff this season as the running backs coach.

Last season, the Miner offensive racked up 4,699 yards of total offense and the 409 points scored by Missouri S&T was the fourth-most in a season in school history.  That came following a 2017 season where the offense had its best performance in school history, averaging a school record 459.7 yards per game and eclipsing the 5,000-yard mark for a season for the first time ever.  The unit also had the program’s first All-America performer on the offensive side of the ball since 2009 when Deshawn Jones made two squads after rushing for an S&T-record 1,579 yards.
Burton spent six seasons on Missouri Western’s staff, working with the running backs during that period of time for an offensive unit that was headed by former S&T head coach Tyler Fenwick.  He worked with Harlon Hill Award finalist Michael Hill over his final two seasons at MWSU, a player who rushed for 2,168 yards and 16 touchdowns during the 2012 season and for a school record 3,473 yards during his two seasons at Missouri Western to earn All-America honors.
As a player for the Griffons from 2003-06, Burton threw for 3,151 yards passing and 10 touchdowns.  Burton and his wife, Lisa, live in Rolla and have two children.
