Nate Saum is in his third season as the offensive coordinator for the Missouri S&T football team.

A year ago, the Miners made significant improvement on the offensive side of the ball, averaging 342.3 yards per game of offense, including an average of 141.2 yards a game on the ground that was the highest mark for an S&T team since 2008.

During his first season with the Miners, he worked with one of the top receivers in the nation in Chad Shockley, who finished 10th in NCAA Division II for pass receptions with 87 and 14th in yardage with a school record 1,187 yards.

Saum was a graduate assistant at Ohio University during the 2009 season and worked as a student assistant on the Bobcats’ staff for four seasons prior to that, working with the team’s running backs. One of the players he coached, Kalvin McRae, posted back-to-back seasons with over 1,000 yards rushing and set the school record with 4,398 career rushing yards.

A running back on two state championship teams during his high school career at Amanda (Ohio) Clearcreek High School, Saum earned his Bachelor’s degree in physical education from Ohio University in 2009.
