Shane Herschelman enters his fourth season as the assistant baseball coach at Missouri S&T in 2024.
In addition to his duties with the baseball program, Herschelman assists with internal operations and manages the equipment room for S&T's athletic teams.
Under Herschelman's tutelage, the S&T pitching staff saw their strikeout total increase from 2021 to 2022 by over 40. The 307 strikeouts recorded in 2022 are the most in a season since 2016, when Miner pitching fanned 318 batters. In the 2023 season, S&T hurlers struck out a school record 361 batters as they averaged 8.89 strikeouts per nine innings.
Prior to joining the staff at Missouri S&T, Herschelman served as the assistant baseball coach at Truman State University under head coach Dan Davis for the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
Prior to Truman State, Herschelman returned to his alma mater Maryville University in St. Louis and coached the pitching staff to school records in strikeouts, wins, hits allowed, innings pitched and opponent’s batting average. Maryville also had the school’s first Major League Baseball’s draft pick during Herschelman’s tenure when pitcher Robbie Gordon was selected in the 36th round by the St. Louis Cardinals. Two pitchers, including Gordon, were the first two hurlers to earn all-conference for the Saints and the team set a school record for wins in the 2017 season.
Following his playing stint at Maryville, he volunteered for a season at William Woods University in Fulton where the team tied a school record for wins in a season and finished second in the country in earned run average.
