Biography

2009: Had an outstanding season on both the offensive and pitching fronts…batted .328 with a home run and 28 runs batted in at the plate…as a pitcher, recorded a 3-3 record with a 3.74 earned run average in 53 innings of work…finished third on the team in hits with 59, which included 18 multiple-hit outings…had one of the Miners’ two five-hit games during the year at Quincy and also scored four runs in that game…also had a four-hit game in the third game of the set and threw a six-hit shutout in between the two games that he recorded a total of nine hits…drove in four runs on two occasions, including an early season game against Augustana when he hit a grand slam for his first home run as a Miner…grand slam came during S&T’s school record 15-run fourth inning…also drove in four runs in a win over Northern Kentucky…also finished the season with nine doubles, two triples and eight stolen bases…made nine starts on the mound among his 11 appearances…allowed two earned runs or less in seven of those starts…posted victories over William Woods, Quincy and Missouri-St. Louis…threw a season-high eight innings against UMSL on April 12, two in relief to close out a suspended game and six to open the first scheduled game; allowed only four hits with six strikeouts that day…fanned 40 hitters in 53 innings with a season-high of seven against William Woods and Drury…opposing hitters batted just .241 against him during the year.

2008: Finished the season by hitting .269 as he appeared in 43 games…started in 34 contests, mostly at second base…drove in 15 runs during the year, with a three-RBI performance against SIU Edwardsville…had seven doubles and 14 stolen bases in as many attempts…had eight games with two or more hits, with three hits against Southern Indiana and in two of the four games against Quincy.

2007: Named to the all-region and all-conference team as a freshman…selected to the Daktronics first team as a utility player and to the Rawlings/ABCA team as an infielder…chosen to the All-GLVC first team as a utility player after finishing his first season as the Miners’ leading hitter with a .351 average and 13 runs batted in…also pitched for the Miners, going 3-2 with a 3.34 earned run average in 35 innings of work…struck out 26 hitters with 10 walks…had a four-hit game against Saint Joseph’s and three-hit outings against Southern Indiana and Wisconsin-Parkside…hit .440 with runners in  scoring position…had a complete game shutout with eight strikeouts in a 1-0 victory over Lewis…also got a win over Truman State as he held the Bulldogs to two hits over six innings.

HIGH SCHOOL: Earned first-team all-state honors as an outfielder at Fort Bend Hightower High School -- hitting .484 in the 2006 season...was a three-time all-district performer as a pitcher as he went 8-2 with a 0.80 earned run average as a senior....was selected as one of the Houston Chronicle's "Players of the Year", while showing his versatility as he has also played three infield positions in his high school career.

PERSONAL: Son of Jerry and Debbie Cogan...majoring in electrical engineering.
