AT SOUTHWESTERN ILLINOIS: Was selected as his team’s recipient of the “Cy Young Award” following a sophomore season in which he went 3-4 with a 4.91 earned run average…threw 73 2/3 innings and made 14 starts during the year with one complete game…struck out 62 hitters and walked just 18…went 3-2 with a 1.69 earned run average in his freshman season at SWIC, with 14 strikeouts in 21 1/3 innings.

HIGH SCHOOL: Earned all-conference honors at Belleville East High School, where he played for a conference and regional championship team in 2013…went 3-2 with a 1.39 earned run average in 35 1/3 innings, striking out 27 and walking just nine that season…selected as a Metro League all-star and Mon-Clair League all-star during the summer of 2015.

PERSONAL: Son of Louis and Sonja Garza…majoring in civil engineering.
