Biography
2011-12: Led off the Miners' winning performance in the 800-yard freestyle relay at the NSISC Championships...had his best time of the season in the 500-yard freestyle of 4:37.79 to earn a fourth place finish and also finished fourth in the 1,650-freestyle in 16:03.16...finished fifth in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a team-best time of 9:40.73.
2010-11: Earned a fourth-place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle, a fifth in the 500-freestyle and a sixth in the 1,000-freestyle at the NSISC Championships won by the Miners...had top times of the season of 4:39.71 in the 500-yard freestyle, 9:43.11 in the 1,000 and 16:02.98 in the 1,650-free...was also part of the Miners' 800-yard freestyle relay team that had a top time of 6;47.58 for the season.
2009-10: Finished sixth in the 1,000-yard freestyle at the NSISC Championships, posting his best time of the season at 9:42.23 which made the NCAA B-cut for the national meet...added a sixth-place showing in the 200-backstroke in a seasonal-best 1:54.40...also took 12th in the 500-freestyle at the meet in 4:41.83 to make a B-cut as well.
PERSONAL: Son of Timothy and Lynn Welsh…earned all-state honors in the freestyle events during his prep career…competed in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle at the 2007 and 2008 state meets as well as the 200-freestyle relay in 2007…won conference championships in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle in 2008 after capturing the 100-freestyle title as a junior in 2007…was a four-year member of the varsity program at Lafayette High School and earned scholar-athlete honors…majoring in chemical engineering.
