Football Forces Pair of Turnovers at Truman; Fall in GLVC Opener

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  --  Missouri S&T Football fell to the Truman State Bulldogs 42-14 today, falling to 0-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference competition.

The Miners picked up a pair of turnovers in the first quarter, with Jalen Hill (Mayo, FL/Lafayette) recovering and muffled punt and Cameron Sturgell (Lamar, MO/Lamar) picking up his second career interception. They pushed their way into Truman State territory twice in the opening quarter, but came up empty after a missed field goal and failed fourth-down conversion.

S&T held the Bulldogs scoreless for the first third of the contest, but the Bulldogs finally broke through halfway through the second quarter, scoring on a seven-yard run to take a 7-0 lead. The Miners immediately responded with a touchdown of their own. Eli Scott (Louisville, KY/Eastern) completed five of six passes during the scoring drive, throwing for 71 yards to set up a game-tying touchdown run by AJ Harris (Wentzville, MO/Lutheran-St. Charles).

Truman State took advantage of two three-and-outs by S&T between the end of the second quarter and the start of the third, scoring thrice to take a 28-7 lead five minutes into the second half. Scott and Evan Wells (Roxana, IL/Roxana) combined to lead the Miners on a 74-yard scoring drive next, ending with a 21-yard touchdown pass from Scott to Tyler Gioia (Huntington Beach, CA/Edison).

The Bulldogs scored twice in the fourth quarter, taking a 42-14 advantage. S&T drove down to the TSU11 late in the game before turning the ball over on downs to allow Truman State to run out the clock.

Scott threw for a career-high 272 yards, completing 27 of 44 passes to help the Miners outpace Truman State through the air 272-216. DJ McPherson (Union City, CA/James Logan) was Scott's top target for the day, setting career-highs of 6 receptions and 73 yards.

Devin Dunn (McLean, VA/The Potomac School) led the offense in tackles, picking up a career-high nine, while Kam Richardson (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) added a pair of pass breakups. Kaden Glass (San Antonio, TX/Pieper) was a top contributor as well, recording a sack, a tackle for loss, and three tackles.
