QUINCY, Ill. -- Missouri S&T's swim team prevailed over Quincy in a close one during their dual meet on the road, defeating the Hawks 115-90. The Miners claimed six of the eleven events, winning the 200-yard freestyle relay, 200-yard freestyle, 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard free, 500-yard free, and 200-yard breaststroke.
S&T opened the dual meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay, with the team of
Aidan Cunningham (Omaha, NE/Westside),
JP McCann (Houston, TX/Westside),
Oscar Iden (Oslo, Norway/Oslo Private Gymnasium), and
Adam Wiedemeier (West Monroe, LA/West Monroe) taking the event with a time of 1:35.66. The team of
Nathan Butler (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit), Nic Malherbe,
John Cottrell (Fort Madison, IA/Fort Madison), and
Grady Ashley (St. Louis, MO/Kirkwood) nabbed third in the event, adding another two points to the Miners' score.
Otto Lövdahl won the 500 free and took second the 1000 free, with
Colin Shaffer (Ballwin, MO/Parkway South) finishing close behind to claim second and third, respectively.
Bryce Naquin (Thibodaux, LA/Thibodaux) was the only Miner to win two individual events, taking the 200 free with a time of 1:45.83 and the 100 free with a time of 47.40.
Adam Wiedemeier (West Monroe, LA/West Monroe) took first in the 50 free and later placed second in the 100 free.
JP McCann (Houston, TX/Westside) was the Miners only other individual event winner, taking the 200 breast and finishing in 2:12.79.
Mahlerbe recorded the Miners' only personal best of the meet, swimming the 50 free in 23.15 to beat his previous best of 24.29.
