ROLLA, Mo. — Missouri S&T men's soccer battled back from an early deficit Saturday, but the University of Indianapolis scored the deciding goal in the second half to hand the Miners a 2-1 loss at Allgood-Bailey Stadium for Pink Out.
The Miners (7-4, 5-4) controlled much of the offensive pressure, finishing with a 16-11 advantage in shots and a 9-7 edge in corner kicks. UIndy (5-3-4, 4-2-3) capitalized on its opportunities, however, scoring twice to secure the road victory.
UIndy opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Joey Longo found the back of the net to give the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead.
S&T continued to pressure the UIndy defense and nearly found the equalizer several times before finally breaking through in the 66th minute.
Mike Banasik (Hjoerring, Denmark/Hjoering Gymnasium) converted a penalty kick to bring the Miners level at 1-1.
With the match deadlocked, both teams continued to trade opportunities before UIndy regained the lead in the 75th minute. Brendan French scored off an assist from Owen Hardy to put the Greyhounds ahead 2-1.
The Miners continued to push for an equalizer in the final minutes, earning multiple chances and corners, but UIndy goalkeeper Rick Lammerts made several key saves to preserve the lead. Lammerts finished with six saves, while S&T goalkeeper
Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano) recorded three saves.
Banasik led the Miners with three shots, including two on goal and his penalty-kick goal.
Luke Giesing (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) also recorded two shots on target.
Despite the loss, S&T finished the afternoon with seven shots on goal and continued to pressure UIndy throughout the second half.
