Gum Heads to Brazil as Member of NCAA DII National Team

ROLLA, Mo. – Norah Gum (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) of Missouri S&T Women's Basketball has been selected to represent a U.S. National Team of NCAA Division II players this summer.

Norah Gum (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) will participate in a U.S. National Team this summer in Brazil with other NCAA Division II players.

Gum and the team will leave the United States on July 21 and compete in four games before returning on July 29. Her team will play two games in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and two games in Rio de Janerio. The team will play first and second division professional teams and Under-22 club teams.

The team is coached by Drury Women's Basketball head coach Kaci Bailey. Drury assistant Destiny Smith, Henderson State's Jill Thomas and Missouri Western's Brooks McKowen will serve on Bailey's staff.

The rest of the Team USA roster includes Sam Basson (Henderson State), Patricia Chikamba (Indianapolis), Rhi Gibbons (Drury), Ryan Franklin (Missouri Southern/Tampa), Kaylee King (Drury), Olivia Lee (Union), Sara Mendel (Drury) and Ivey Schmidt (Western Colorado).

Gum completed her sophomore season this past spring. She averaged 10.6 points per game and 6.1 rebounds per game this season for S&T. Her 164 total rebounds and146 defensive rebounds this season was first on the team. Gum was third on the team with 25.8 minutes per game.

"It's an awesome opportunity for Norah to compete with other highly regarded NCAA D-II players," Missouri S&T head coach Kira Carter exclaimed. "I am excited for her to experience international basketball while also learning about another culture and other teammates. It's also an honor to have been selected by a fellow conference coach in Kaci Bailey. Kaci is a friend of mine and I respect her as a coach, so I am happy that Norah will be on this tour with quality people."
