Golf's Historic Season Ends in National Quarterfinals

5/22/2025 11:40:00 AM

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL  --  The Miners historic 2025 campaign drew to a close this morning as the team fell to Wingate 4-1 in the match play quarterfinals.

Cole Komyati (Elberta, AL/Bayside Academy) had a strong outing today, shooting -3 under for his second best round at nationals. He took an early lead over Wingate's Lewis Beeden after the latter double bogeyed the first hole of the day. Komyati never relinquished the lead after that, picking up three birdies on the day and not recording a bogey all day. S&T's other four pairing did not go the Miners' way though, leading to the 4-1 result in Wingate's favor.

Despite the loss, the 2025 season will go down as the most successful in S&T history. The Miners won six tournaments this year, including the program's first Great Lakes Valley Conference title, and finished top three in stroke play at every event this year. They also recorded the best finish at Nationals this year, making match play for the first time in Miner history.
