Men's Soccer Wraps Up Regular Season at Southwest Baptist, Awaits GLVC Tournament

BOLIVAR, Mo. – Missouri S&T men's soccer wrapped up its regular season on Sunday afternoon, falling 1-0 to Southwest Baptist in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play at Plaster Stadium.

The Miners (9-5-3, 7-5-2 GLVC) created multiple scoring chances throughout the match but couldn't find the back of the net, despite controlling possession for much of the second half and firing 13 total shots.

After a scoreless first half, Southwest Baptist netted the lone goal of the match in the 48th minute when Luis Sanchez-Barbudo Cruz converted off an assist from Edgar Piña Alvarez. From that point on, S&T continued to press forward, earning two corner kicks and several quality looks at goal, but were unable to find an equalizer.

The Miners' best chances came from Sam Bresette (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit), Joseph Sommer (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville), Ian Conner (Las Vegas, NV/Northwest Career & Technical Academy), and Luiz Bernis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Santo Antonio), each recording shots on goal. Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano) anchored the S&T defense, finishing the day with seven saves to keep the Miners within striking distance.

Despite the setback, Missouri S&T finishes the regular season with its most GLVC wins since 2016 and has secured a spot in the GLVC Men's Soccer Tournament.

What's Next
The Miners will open postseason play on Sunday, November 9, taking on Lincoln in the first round of the GLVC Tournament.
