Rolla, Mo. – Missouri S&T men's soccer returns to Allgood-Bailey Stadium this weekend for a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference matchups. The Miners will host UIndy on Friday, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m. before taking on Lewis on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 2:30 p.m.
About the Miners
The Miners (5-3-1, 3-3 GLVC) head into the weekend following a successful road split, highlighted by a 3-2 win at Illinois Springfield.
On Friday, S&T dropped a 2-1 decision at McKendree despite a strong second-half push. Joao Vieira (Punta del Este, Uruguay/International College) netted his team-leading third goal of the season in the 70th minute, while Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano) made one save in goal. The Miners controlled play after halftime, holding a 15-6 shot advantage, but were unable to complete the comeback
S&T bounced back Sunday with an exciting 3-2 victory over UIS. Luke Giesing (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh), Mike Banasik (Loekkegade, Denmark/Hjoering Gymnasium), and Jake Salazar-Blair (Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista) each scored, while Brendan Owens (St. Louis, MO/Fort Zumwalt South), Salazar-Blair, and Luiz Bernis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Santo Antonio) tallied assists. The Miners outshot the Prairie Stars 19-7 and dominated possession with seven corner kicks. Bruhn made four saves to secure the win
S&T ranks No. 1 in the GLVC in shots per game (14.56) and No. 4 in goals with 17 on the season. Vieira and Banasik lead the Miners offensively with three goals apiece, followed by Joseph Sommer (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) and Salazar-Blair, while Bruhn continues to anchor the defense with multiple standout performances in goal.
About the Greyhounds
UIndy (7-1-2, 5-1-1 GLVC) enters the weekend after posting back-to-back home victories. On Friday, the Greyhounds blanked Southwest Baptist 2-0 behind goals from Alvaro Sanchez and Nikolas Karnesis. Sanchez opened the scoring just after halftime off an assist from Sam Siegel, while Karnesis added a second in the 55th minute, assisted by August Abrahamsen. Goalkeeper Keerti Unnamatla recorded five saves in the shutout
Two days later, UIndy edged Drury 1-0 behind Joey Longo's 72nd-minute strike. Unnamatla posted his second consecutive clean sheet with four saves as the Greyhounds limited Drury to just seven shots
UIndy enters the weekend ranked No. 1 in the GLVC in goals and assists, averaging 2.40 goals and 1.70 assists per game.
About the Flyers
Lewis (3-2-5, 2-2-2 GLVC) comes into the weekend after losing one and earning a home draw and a win over the previous weekend. On Friday, the Flyers dropped a tight 1-0 decision to Rockhurst despite outshooting the Hawks 11-3 and producing 16 corner kicks. Goalkeeper Yoan Zagorov made two saves, while Noah Kawaguchi fired three shots.
Two days later, Lewis battled Southwest Baptist to a 2-2 draw. Mikey Revell struck in the 14th minute, and Mario Ramirez equalized late in the 79th off a pass from Kawaguchi. Zagorov finished with four saves, and Lewis dominated set pieces with an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
