Miners-Hawks in Conference Opener this Saturday

9/19/2024 12:00:00 PM

ROLLA, Mo.  --  Coming off their biggest win since 2021, the Miners look to extend their win streak when they host the Quincy Hawks in Saturday's conference opener.

Series History
The Miners lead the all-time series against Quincy 12-4, winning seven of the last eight. The last time that Quincy won this matchup was in October of 2021 when they beat the Miners 31-28 in Quincy, Illinois off a 50-yard interception in the 4th quarter.
The Miners are 7-1 when hosting in this series, with their only loss coming in 1998 by a score of 23-17.

The Hawks' greatest margin of victory against S&T is seven, which occurred in both 1999 (23-16) and in 2014 (20-13). Meanwhile, the Miners' greatest margin of victory is fifty-eight, coming in a 64-6 victory in Quincy, Illinois back in 2012.

About the Hawks
Quincy's record this season is 1-0, having started a game against Drake University on August 29th but cancelling it part-way through due to weather. Their one completed game came against Lincoln of Missouri on September 7th, beating the Blue Tigers 46-5 in a game that saw both teams get safeties.

QB Drake Davis went 20-24 in the contest for 267 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Hawks found even more success on the ground than they did through the air, rushing for 275 yards as Teon Dollard went for 150 and Kareem Carswell recorded 116.

About the Miners
S&T grabbed their first win of the season last week, taking down the Lincoln Oaklanders 45-6 in their biggest win since trouncing Arkansas Baptist 71-0 on September 11th, 2021.

The game allowed the Miners some flexibility to get their depth players into the game, with backup QB Austin Havens (Bixby, OK/Bixby) leading the team in passing with 110 yards and a touchdown, including a 94-yard connection to Chrishon Crenshaw (Pike Road, AL/Pike Road) which is the third longest play from scrimmage in S&T history.

Gideon Niboh (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell) also made history last week, recording his third career punt return touchdown last week against Lincoln, his fourth return TD overall; both stats tie the current S&T records.

What's Next

After taking a week off, the Miners will conclude their three game homestand on October 5th when they host the Southwest Baptist Bearcats for Hall of Fame/Black Out night.
