ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Women's Volleyball will travel for their last non-conference tournament of the season at the Pittsburg State Regional.
Match 1: Missouri S&T (2-5) vs. Washburn (6-1), Sept. 20 at 9 a.m.
Washburn has only lost one match of the season, a five-set loss to Texas A&M University – Kingsville. They have defeated familiar opponents Winona State and William Jewell this season, both 3-0 sweeps. Jayln Stevenson leads the team with 2.92 kills per set and she is second with 3.38 digs per set.
In the MIAA last season, Washburn finished with an 11-9 conference record and fifth place finish. They fell in the first round of the MIAA Tournament to Missouri Western State. In their all-time matchup, Washburn leads 1-0 with their last match in 2007.
Match 2: Missouri S&T (2-5) vs. Henderson State (7-2), Sept. 20 at 4:30 p.m.
The Reddies come into the weekend wit ha 7-2 record with their lone losses to Arkansas Fort Smith and Texas Woman's University. They were a part of the Reddie-Tiger Invitational to open the season but never played S&T during the tournament. They won every match at the invitational with their lone set dropped to St. Mary's. Christiane Uzoh currently leads the team with 84 kills.
In the GAC a season ago, Henderson State finished as a runner-up after they fell to Oklahoma Baptist in the finals. They concluded the season with a 21-11 overall record and 10-6 GAC record. This will be the first ever game between these two programs.
Match 3: Missouri S&T (2-5) vs. Emporia State (6-2), Sept. 21 at 2 p.m.
Emporia State is 6-1 going into the weekend at Pittsburg State. Their lone loss was their opening match against Rockhurst on Sept. 5, a 3-0 sweep. They have taken down GLVC opponents William Jewell and Truman State this season. Rayishon Jackman is currently tied for 15
th in all of Division II with 4.32 kills pet set.
The Hornets finished the 2023 season with a 13-16 record and 7-13 MIAA record. In the conference tournament, they were swept in the first round by Central Missouri. The Miners are 2-1 all-time versus Emporia State with their last win in 2023.
Jordan Burton (Olathe, KS/Olathe South) recorded 14 kills in that 3-1 win on Sept. 7, 2023.
About the Miners
Missouri S&T is 2-5 on the season after they dropped their three matches at the Quincy Classic. They fell to Maryville 3-2, Winona State 3-0 and Quincy 3-1. Following the tournament,
Alina Carrillo (Oviedo, FL/Hagerty) was named to the all-tournament team after she recorded 40 kills and 35 digs over the weekend.
Carrillo currently leads the team with 100 total ills and 3.70 kills per set.
Madison Smith (Boonville, MO/Boonville) has 34 total blocks this season and 1.21 blocks per set.
Madison Offerman (Herscher, IL/Herscher) is close behind at 1.07 per set. Defensively,
Avery Jones (Broken Arrow, OK/Broken Arrow) has 108 digs and 3.86 digs per set.
What's Next
Following the Pittsburg State Regional, GLVC play will begin on Sept. 27 when the Miners travel to Illinois Springfield. The following day, they will play Quincy for the second time in three weeks. Missouri S&T will finally return home on Oct. 4 for their home opener against Drury. Tickets for the 2024 season can be found
