ROLLA, Mo. – Undefeated Men's Soccer is back in action this weekend as they travel to Union on Friday and host Lincoln on Sunday.
Match 1: Missouri S&T (2-0) @Union (2-1), Sept. 13 at 4 p.m.
The Union Bulldogs enter this matchup 2-1 as they topped Harding and Ouachita Baptist last weekend but fell to UMSL on Tuesday. The Miners blanked the Bulldogs last season 2-0 on Sept. 10.
Mike Banasik (Loekkegade, Denmark/Hjoering Gymnasium) scored a goal in that game and
Afxentis Andreou (Paphos, Cyprus/Lykeo Agios Charalambous) recorded five shots.
In their all-time matchup, the two teams are tied 1-1 dating back to 2022. Union was picked to finish 12
th in the GSC Preseason Poll before the season. This past week, Jamie Chamberlain was named the GSC Defensive Player of the Week after he scored a goal. He also played 170 minutes on a defensive unit that only gave up one goal in two matches. Ashanie Kennedy leads the team with three goals (one in each game).
Match 2: Lincoln (1-0) @Missouri S&T (2-0), Sept. 15 at 2:30 p.m.
In their first GLVC season, Lincoln defeated Lee last weekend at home 1-0 for their first win. In the all-time matchup between S&T and Lincoln, the Miners have dominated with a 12-0 record. Their first match came in 1980 with their last in 2001 as the Blue Tigers have brought back men's soccer this season.
Vincent Osei was awarded the GLVC Defensive Player of the Week this past week after his shutout versus Lee. He made three saves with eight total shots. In the GLVC Coaches Preseason Poll, the Blue Tigers were picked to place 13
th, two spots behind Missouri S&T.
About the Miners
S&T enters the weekend 2-0 for the first time since 2011. They recorded a 1-0 shutout win over Northeastern State guided by an Andreou goal. Against Kentucky Wesleyan on Sunday, the two teams were tied with two seconds left but
Luiz Bernis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Santo Antonio) ended it with a goal.
Goalkeeper
Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano) has a 0.50 GAA this season with a shutout against Northeastern State. He has only allowed one goal in two starts. Banasik leads the team with six shots and three shots on goal. The Miners will look to improve their undefeated record throughout the weekend.
What's Next
Missouri S&T will play their last non-conference game of the season on Sept. 20 versus Davenport at home. That game is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m. On Sept. 22, the Miners will travel down I-44 to face Drury at 2:30 p.m. Tickets for the 2024 season can be found
