ROLLA, Mo. – The Miners are welcoming back
Van Klohmann as the assistant coach for women's basketball. Klohmann was with S&T from 2019-2023, spending the first season as the men's basketball assistant coach before assuming the same role with the women's team for the next three seasons.
Speaking on his return to S&T, Van said, ""Missouri S&T has a special place in my heart. It's truly a privilege to be back here working with Coach Carter, Miner Athletics, and our terrific student-athletes. The academics and athletics that S&T offers isn't something you find everywhere, so I am excited to help our Miners continue to dig deeper!"
Klohmann focused on player development of forwards and centers and assisted with daily operations in his time with the Miners. S&T saw a seven-win improvement from 2020-21 and won their highest amount of overall and conference games since the 2012-13 season. The Miners also hosted two of the top four shot blockers in the league in freshman
Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville), who led the GLVC with 38 and
Alex Kerr (St. Louis, MO/St. Joseph's Academy), who ranked fourth with 29. The Miners saw two All-GLVC Second Team selections in Kerr and
Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones) and ranked in the top 10 in the GLVC statistically in several categories, including field goal percentage, three-point FG percentage, steals, assists and rebounding, and ranked third in blocked shots. Kerr and Rodriguez also ranked in the top 15 in the league in scoring average while Kerr was again among the top five in rebounding average and blocks. Marta Durk was also among the league leaders in assists and was top five in steals.
Coach Kira Carter shared her enthusiasm for Van's return, stating, "We are excited to have Van back with our program. He will bring great energy and lead in the areas of Defense and Post Player development while assisting with all other aspects of our program. We saw tremendous growth in our program when he was last here and we look forward to continued progress!"
Klohmann is taking over for Lajanea Kimbrough who was with S&T's women's basketball team for one year and left to pursue other interests.
