RICHMOND, Ky. – A solid third round performance allowed Missouri S&T's golf team to move up two spots in the standings to a second place finish at the Findlay Springs Invitational at Boone's Track National Golf Club.
The Miners recorded a seven-under-par score of 281 on Tuesday to finish at one-under for the tournament at 863, finishing behind only Wayne State (Mich.) in the team standings. Wayne State finished with a score of 853 over the three rounds after matching S&T's 281 on Tuesday.
Connor Benjamin (Nelson Bay, Australia/St. Philip's Christian College) and
Jeppe Thybo (Esbjerg, Denmark/Rybners Gymnasium) finished in a tie for third on an individual basis with three-under scores of 213, as Benjamin finished with score of 69 in round three and Thybo finished with a 70. Benjamin's round included an eagle on the par-five 13
th hole, while Thybo had birdies on five of his last eight holes of play.
Carl Miltun (Gilbert, AZ/Williams Field) finished in a tie for 11
th place as he shot a 71 Tuesday to finish at even par at 216, while
Isaac To (Petaling Jaya, Malaysia/Real International School) finished with a score of 227 and
Nicolas Estrada (Zaragoza, Spain/IES Valdespartera) finished at 228.
Walsh's Kyle Buzaki was the tournament medalist with a score of 209.
Missouri S&T's golf team rebounded from a tough first round to move up into fourth place after two rounds of play at the Findlay Spring Invitational at Boone's Track National Golf Club.
The Miners posted an six-over-par score of 294 over the first 18 holes, but came back with a 289 in round two to move up to fourth place in the team standings at seven shots over par with a score of 583 with one round to play on Tuesday.
S&T's top showing on Monday came from
Jeppe Thybo (Esbjerg, Denmark/Rybners Gymnasium) as he posted a one-under score of 143, with rounds of 73 and 70 on the day. Thybo ended the day in a tie for seventh place, while
Connor Benjamin (Nelson Bay, Australia/St. Philip's Christian College) is tied for ninth with an even par score of 144 as he fired a 69 in the first round and a 75 in the second.
Carl Miltun (Gilbert, AZ/Williams Field) bounced back from a first round 78 to shoot a 68 in the second round that included six birdies and an eagle; he finished with a two-over score of 146.
Isaac To (Petaling Jaya, Malaysia/Real International School) finished the day at 150 and
Nicolas Estrada (Zaragoza, Spain/IES Valdespartera) posted a score of 157 through the first two rounds.
Wayne State (Mich.) holds the lead after two rounds with a four-under score of 572, while Davenport finished the day at 578 and Findlay at 580.
Missouri S&T will compete at the Ken Partridge Invitational in Indianapolis on April 8 and 9.
