Miners Volleyball loses to McKendree on Saturday Evening

LEBANON, Ill. – The Miners strong third set was not enough to overcome the Bearcats today. They struggled in the first set but started to find a rhythm in the next two. Despite the turnaround, they lost in straight sets.

1st Set:
The Miners struggled in the first, as they fell behing 5-14 in the first. They managed to stop the bleeding and matched the McKendree over the next several points up to 20-11. However, a 4-0 run by the Bearcats provided them enough momentum to take the first set 25-13 over the Miners.

2nd Set:
S&T played much better at the start of the set, leading by 7-5 early. A 7-1 run by the home team would put the Miners down by four though. They were able to draw the score back to 13-14 halfway through the set, but the Bearcats responded with a three point run that aided as they pulled away and won the set 25-18.

3rd Set:
The third set was the best of the day for the Miners, as the team had a .318 hitting percentage and four blocks. Similar to the second set, the Miners were down by one early at 9-10 before the Bearcats strung together four kills and two aces to go on a six point run and go ahead by seven. The Miners were unable to close this gap as McKendree would go on win the set 25-18 to defeat S&T in straight sets.

The Miners four blocks in the third set was one of their best individual set efforts of the season. Meanwhile, Aaron Sallade (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) led the Miners offensively with 11 kills and 11.5 points.

The Miners will host the Lindenwood Lions in Gibson Arena this Wednesday night at 7 pm as they look to get another win.
