McKendree Visits Rolla in Miners' Final Home Game of the Season

10/31/2024 9:00:00 AM

ROLLA, Mo.  --  The Miners will play their final home game of the season on Saturday at 1pm. They will be facing McKendree University in this year's Military Appreciation/Senior Day game.

Series History
Missouri S&T has a sizable lead in the all-time series, with 14 wins to 6 losses. The results have been more even in the previous ten games, with each team winning five games. The Bearcats are on a two-game win streak over the Miners though and a third win in a row would be their longest winning streak over S&T ever.

About the Bearcats
McKendree was picked to finish third in the conference this season, just above S&T who was in fourth. The Bearcats sit at fifth in the conference right now, with a 3-2 conference record and a 4-4 overall record.

Jason Rejfek is McKendree's interim head coach this season, taking over the role in early August after former head coach Mike Babcock took a position with the football program at the University of California, Los Angeles.

The McKendree offense has been led by redshirt sophomore Ty Michael who is currently second in the conference for average yards per game. In his first year as a starter, Michael has already won a Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week award. His biggest struggle this season has been turnovers, as he leads the GLVC in interceptions with 7 through eight games. Michael will be turning over the reigns to graduate student Caleb Fisher for Saturday's game. Fisher held the starting position all of last season, throwing for 19 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

The Bearcats have the best passing defense in the conference, only allowing 186.8 yards per game and 8 touchdowns so far this season. Their defense has recorded 14 interceptions this season, a conference high and the fourth most in all of Division II.

About the Miners
The Miners scored over 60 points for the second time this season with last week's 63-21 defeat of Lincoln. S&T spread the ball well in the win, with nine different players being involved in touchdowns.

The Miners are averaging 36.0 points per game, ranking them 14th in Division II. The offense is also second in the conference for passing yards per game with 234.5, making the Miners' air attack versus McKendree's pass defense a key matchup to watch this Saturday.

What's Next

S&T will end their 2024 regular season with trips to Indianapolis and Upper Iowa.
