ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Men's Soccer drew with Quincy 1-1 on Friday night.
The Hawks started the match strong after Paal Vistnes scored in the fourth minute from a corner kick. Later in the half, Jake Ellis was saved by
Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano). Just over a minute later,
Andrei Paley (Rogers, AR/Bentonville) put in his first career goal to tie the match at 1-1. His goal was unassisted, but it started with a
Daylan Frerker (Collinsvillle, IL/Collinsville) long throw-in. Neither team recorded a shot on goal the rest of the half.
The Miners picked up a shot in the early moments of the second half from
Luke Giesing (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh). For the entire second half, no team had a shot on goal as the match ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.
Joao Vieira (Punta del Este, Uruguay/International College) tallied three total shots to lead the team. Paley and
Luiz Bernis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Santo Antonio) had the only two shots on goal for the Miners against Quincy. Bruhn collected one save on his one goal allowed. In total, the Miners outshot the Hawks 14-8.
With the draw, the Miners remained in sixth place in the GLVC with five matches to go. S&T currently has 12 conference points along with Drury. Lincoln and Quincy are behind them with 11, while Illinois Springfield is ahead of them with 15.
What's Next
The Miners will welcome Upper Iowa on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Following that match, S&T will travel to William Jewell and Truman State on Oct. 25-27. They will come home for their final regular season weekend of 2024 as they face Southwest Baptist on Nov. 1 and Rockhurst on Nov. 3.
