LIBERTY, Mo. -- The Miners are facing William Jewell on Saturday at 1pm in their fourth conference game of the season. S&T enters the contest with a 1-3 Great Lakes Valley Conference record and a 2-4 record overall.
Series History
S&T is ahead in the all-time series between the Miners and Cardinals, leading 12-4-1. The Miners are currently on an eight game winning streak against William Jewell, having not lost a game against them since 2015. The Miners have outscored William Jewell 135-50 in their last three meetings, with their previous meeting ending in a 57-20 victory for S&T, which is their second largest margin of series in the history against them.
About the Cardinals
William Jewell was selected to finish second to last in the conference this season, with only Lincoln of Missouri receiving fewer points. The Cardinals are currently outperforming their projection, sitting at sixth in the conference right now with a 1-2 GLVC record and 3-3 overall record. The Cardinals are led by Head Coach Jason Ambrosen who is in his first season with the team. Ambrosen comes from the high school level, where he had been coaching at Smithville High School and earning a 90-19 record there.
Jewell's starting quarterback is redshirt freshman Tucker Griffin. Griffin is second in the conference for completion percentage at 63.8%, with only Quincy's Drake Davis recording a higher percentage. The Cardinals' biggest offensive threat is Keaundre McCullough, a redshirt senior running back from Belzoni, Mississippi. McCullough leads the conference in nearly every rushing statistic, averaging 151.2 rushing yards per game. Nationally, he is in the top six for every rushing category ranks sixth in the nation for all-purpose yards per game with 158.8.
About the Miners
S&T is coming off a difficult loss to Truman State last weekend, falling to the Bulldogs 48-17. The Miners gave up the second-most rushing yards on the season to TSU, allowing them to rush for 258 yards as well as two touchdowns. The rush defense will be a key area of the game to watch for with Jewell's McCullough posing such a threat on the other side of the ball.
The Miners offense is currently ranked second in the conference for points per game, with a 29.3 average.
Tyler Gioia (Huntington Beach, CA/Edison) is averaging 211.3 yards per game, ranking him third in the GLVC.
CJ Wiggins (Yuma, AZ/Gila Ridge) is second in the conference for yards per game with 70.3 as well as 2 touchdowns. Defensively,
Devin Dunn (McLean, VA/The Potomac School) is third in the conference for pass breakups with six and
Carson Prenger (Jefferson City, MO/Blair Oaks) is fourth in tackles per game at 7.8.
