Men's Soccer to Play Lewis and Indianapolis on the Road

ROLLA, Mo. – Men's Soccer makes their second to last road trip of 2024 as they face Lewis and (RV) Indianapolis this weekend.

Match 1: Missouri S&T (6-2-2, 3-1-2 GLVC) at Lewis (3-1-6, 3-0-3 GLVC) Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m.

The Flyers come into this match undefeated in GLVC play with three wins and three draws. They are on a two-game winning streak after their 3-0 win at Southwest Baptist and 1-0 victory at Rockhurst. Cristian Perez picked up two goals between the two matches.

In their all-time matchup, Lewis leads 17-13-2 with a 10-5-1 home record. Last season, Lewis won 3-2 with their game-winner in the 89th minute. Jimmy Sanchez (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell Central) and Nathan Weyrauch (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) both scored for S&T. Artus Gorodnickis currently ranks third in the GLVC in goals scored with four this season. The Flyers are seventh in the conference with 1.4 goals per game. Lewis was picked first in the GLVC this season after their NCAA Final Four appearance in 2023.

Match 2: Missouri S&T (6-2-2, 3-1-2 GLVC) at (RV) Indianapolis (6-2-1, 6-0-1 GLVC) Oct. 13 at 1:30 p.m. CT

UIndy is one of three teams still undefeated in the GLVC, but the only team with six victories. Their 19 conference points is two ahead of second place McKendree. This past weekend, they drew 2-2 at Drury and topped Southwest Baptist 2-0. S&T will be the highest opponent on the GLVC standings for UIndy so far this season.

The Miners are 12-13-4 all-time against the Greyhounds with a 4-6-2 record in Indianapolis. In 2023, the two teams ended in a 0-0 draw. Lucas Bedleg leads the GLVC in shots at 2.88 per game and shots on goal at 1.75. Goalkeeper Ionas Giovanidis is second in the conference in GAA at .571. The Greyhounds recently received votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll this past week. They were picked to place second in the GLVC this season after they won the conference in 2023.

About the Miners

The Miners are coming off a 1-1 weekend where they defeated Illinois Springfield but fell to #9 McKendree. Mike Banasik (Loekkegade, Denmark/Hjoering Gymnasium) scored two goals against UIS as he leads the team with three. Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano) has played in all 10 matches for the Miners and has a 0.71 GAA and a .800 save percentage.

Daylan Frerker's (Collinsvillle, IL/Collinsville) 813 minutes played is the highest behind Bruhn. Caden Archer (St. Louis, MO/Vianney) is close behind him with 710 and Afxentis Andreou (Paphos, Cyprus/Lykeo Agios Charalambous) has 678 minutes played. Luke Giesing (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) has a goal and three assists through 10 matches off the bench for the Miners. Joao Vieira (Punta del Este, Uruguay/International College) and Sanchez both have 14 shots, tied for second on the Miners.

What's Next

S&T will come back home next weekend to face Quincy and Upper Iowa. Those matches are scheduled for Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 20 at 2:30 p.m.

Following this weekend, four of the last six regular season matches will be played in Rolla, Missouri. Every match will be played against opponents in the bottom eight of the conference as of Oct. 10.
