INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Missouri S&T shot a one-over-par 289 in the final round of the UIndy Invitational Tuesday afternoon and ended up in a tie for fifth place in the standings in its second event of the 2023-24 season, but did have a top-five individual finisher in
Carl Miltun (Gilbert, AZ/Williams Field) as he placed fourth overall.
S&T finished with a final score of 870 in the tournament – six shots over par – but was two under over the final two rounds after being eight over after the opening round of action. The Miners ended up in a tie with McKendree for fifth in the tournament held at Broadmoor Country Club.
Miltun finished with a five-under score of 211 after posting a 70 in the final round, which included four of the 12 birdies he made during the tournament.
Isaac To (Petaling Jaya, Malaysia/Real International School) also finished under par for the Miners as he had a one-under score of 215 after an even-par 72 in round three and landed in a tie for 10
th place.
Jeppe Thybo (Esbjerg, Denmark/Rybners Gymnasium), who matched Miltun with his 12 birdies in the three rounds, finished in a tie for 35
th in the 87-player tournament with a score of 221, while
Nicolas Estrada (Zaragoza, Spain/IES Valdespartera) finished at 226 and
Cole Komyati (Elberta, AL/Bayside Academy) ended up at 228.
Grand Valley State won the tournament by 11 shots over Ferris State and Wayne State (Mich.), while the host Greyhounds placed fourth. Wayne State's Mat Hawryluk was the tournament medalist as he finished at nine-under-par with his final score of 207.
Missouri S&T will compete next Monday and Tuesday at the Perkins Intercollegiate at Prairie West Golf Club in Weatherford, Okla.
