Miners fall to sixth-ranked Drury in dual meet

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri S&T's swimming team struggled to keep pace with sixth-ranked Drury Friday evening, as the Panthers won 10 of the 11 events to beat the Miners in a dual meet by a count of 172.5-47.5.

S&T's win came from Martin Melinder (Upplands Vasby, Sweden) in the 1,000-yard freestyle as he recorded a time of 10:02.01, while the Miners had three second place finishes which came from Aidan Walters (Olathe, KS/Olathe East) was second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.87 seconds, Noah Clancy (Alton, IL/Alton) in the 100-yard backstroke in 50.04 seconds and Connor Bichsel (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit West) in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:47.27. Lane Werth (Wichita, KS/Wichita North) was third in the 1,000-freestyle in 10:42.73 and Clancy tied for third in the 100-yard breaststroke as he had a mark of 56.68 seconds.

S&T's 200-yard medley relay team of Oskar Fridsell (Solna, Sweden/Solna Gymnasium), Clancy, Oscar Iden (Oslo, Norway/Oslo Private Gymnasium) and Nate Baxter (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles North) finished third with a time of 1:32 flat, while the quartet of Adam Wiedemeier (West Monroe, LA/West Monroe), Kevin Williams (Houston, TX/Westside), Eli Wetzel (Springdale, AR/Don Tyson School of Innovation) and Walters took third in the 200-freestyle relay in 1:27.58.

The Miners had a handful of fourth place finishes Friday, which came from Wiedemeier in the 200-freestyle in 1:44.79, Baxter in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:57.23 and 100-yard butterfly in 50.68 seconds and Wetzel in the 100-freestyle in 50.22.

The Miners will host their first meet of the season on Dec. 15 at the S&T Pool, as they will host Missouri-St. Louis and Rockhurst in a double dual meet at noon.
