ROLLA, Mo. – For the second time in three weeks, Missouri S&T has landed the Molten/Great Lakes Valley Conference's Offensive Player of the Week award as
Shelby Ply (Rolla, MO/Rolla) was named following the Miners' two weekend victories on the road.
Ply, who has earned a weekly award from the GLVC for the third time in her career, recorded a .500 attack percentage in the Miners' wins over Upper Iowa and Truman State that extended S&T's winning streak to a season-high six games. She opened the weekend by hitting .400 on 10 kills in 20 attempts with two errors in the Miners' four-set win over Upper Iowa, while also adding six block assists.
She closed out the third set win with two of her block assists, joining
Alina Carrillo (Oviedo, FL/Hagerty) on one and
Madelyn Mason (Mount Horeb, WI/Mount Horeb) on the other to end the set.
On Saturday as the Miners swept Truman State, Ply had 10 kills in 16 attempts with no errors while also adding a service ace and three solo blocks. One of the kills closed out the win for S&T in the second set of the match.
Ply joins Mason as recipients of the GLVC's week honor during the 2023 season.
Missouri S&T enters this weekend's GLVC Tournament as the fifth seed and will take on fourth-seeded Rockhurst in the opening round Friday at 2:30 p.m. in Williamsville, Ill.
