ROLLA, Mo. –
Todd Drury, who has spent the last seven seasons on the Missouri S&T coaching staff including the last three as head coach, is stepping down as the Miners' head coach to accept a position on the coaching staff at Western Illinois University.
"I want to thank Coach Drury for his contributions to the football program and wish him and his family all the best," said Missouri S&T Director of Athletics
Melissa Ringhausen.
In his three seasons as head coach, Drury led the Miners to a record of 15-10 with winning seasons in all three years. The Miners were 7-4 during the 2019 season, 2-1 during the reduced 2020-21 season where the games took place during the spring and 6-5 in the fall of 2021 including wins in four of the final five contests.
Drury started his tenure at S&T as the defensive line coach in 2015 before being elevated to defensive coordinator a year later. During this three seasons of heading the defensive unit, the Miners led the Great Lakes Valley Conference twice in yards allowed per game with just 294.3 in 2017 and 292.2 in the 2018 season that saw S&T tie its school record with 10 wins and capture the Mineral Water Bowl.
Missouri S&T ranked third in total defense in the GLVC during each of the two full seasons the Miners played during his tenure.
The Miners have had five defensive players earn All-America honors during his time on the staff – Bo Brooks, Roderick Chapman,
Cameron Clemons (St. Louis, MO/Lutheran North),
Ben Straatmann (Washington, MO/Washington) and Tershawn Wharton – and in his three seasons as head coach, a total of 39 Miners were named to All-GLVC teams.
Ringhausen has announced that associate head coach
Andy Ball, who has been with the program for the past four years, will serve as interim head coach. The search and hiring process for the next coach will begin immediately.
